The Ice Cream Bar's Champorado Risotto Ala Mode

The Ice Cream Bar’s version of champorado is named Champorado Risotto Ala Mode. It is Champorado cooked risotto style in Belgian dark chocolate and served with Raspberry Rapture ice cream.

Champorado is one famous Pinoy food and ICB was able to make it somehow modernized. Instead of using glutinous rice, the ICB used an Italian risotto rice. So instead of feeling the starchiness and the stickiness of the rice, you can enjoy the smooth, soft, firm and gelatinous texture of risotto rice.

Instead of using milk, they blended it with ice cream which makes it very unusual. ☺

The combination of raspberry ice cream and champorado was really good. The ice cream fully complemented both the sweetness and bitterness of the Belgian chocolate studded risotto rice. It is an amazing combination, arguably better than using the average and bland milk.

At first, you can taste the sweetness, with a hint of bitterness, of the chocolate while munching on the chewy rice, then at the tip of your tongue, the sweet and slightly tangy raspberry ice cream slowly takes over, enriching the already immaculate blend of Filipino and Western flavours in your mouth. ☺

I actually like the interior of this resto, very cozy and the colors are really pleasing in the eyes. Makes the customers wanna eat more and more.

This image shows that they really modernize Pinoy foods. ☺

Mangga’t Suman

Now, the Ice Cream bar created a new style of serving this classic Filipino dessert. The Ice Cream Bar has a way of infusing Filipino dishes with a more modern twist, and they have done this with suman. Primarily, suman is known to be eaten side by side with mangos, and The Ice Cream Bar capitalized on this by replacing the fruit with its ice cream counterpart.

Looking at the dish, there are two noticeable parts. The two pieces of suman, the mango ice cream smothered in chocolate syrup.

The two sumans are undeniably good. It is covered with caramelized muscovado sugar. The brown sweetener did not over power the flavour of the suman, rather it exquisitely enhances the overall taste. The ice cream on the other hand is relatively good. It is from FIC, which gives it higher quality compared to other ice creams. It is much creamier and more accurate; stronger mango flavour and a tastier mouthful. It is covered with a thick and hardened chocolate syrup for a more dramatic look.

Individually the elements of the dish are remarkable; not that unique but still, it is unexplainably different in a good way. Although the combination is quite off. I did not like the taste of the caramelized suman together with the ice cream. Although the combination of the warm temperature of the suman and the cool one of the ice cream is pleasant, the taste and the texture do not jive. The sticky texture of the suman, together with the creamy and hardened ice cream does not have a positive chemistry.

A mouthful of the ice cream together with the suman have a tingling, contradicting taste which would make you wanna eat it individually rather than a singularity of infused flavor.

Bread Talk offers a variety of breads, of different prices.

They have a line up of breads, and you can just grab any thing you like. ☺

One morning, i was in a mall then i decided to take breakfast in Bread Talk. I tried out this bread named Cheese Floss. I find it unique because it is only in Bread Talk where i actually saw and tasted this kind of bread.

The bread is sprinkled with finely shredded floss of chicken and pork meat on top of a sweet and cheesy bun. Actually, it has three kinds, Fire Floss (spicy pork), Hot Chic (spicy chicken) and Cheese Floss (regular pork). So, since i am not into spicy food, I only got to try the cheese floss, and it was really gooooood! :> ☺
